Live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford? We can usually confirm PHV rental eligibility quickly from your home postcode and badge council. #PHV #Manchester #TaxiDriver

If you’re a working private hire driver, the distance rule can be confusing (especially if you drive in Manchester but your badge is from elsewhere). This guide shows you the simple way to check before you waste time.

We’re Join Veritas Hire, based around Manchester/Salford, and we only rent cars to licensed PHV taxi drivers.

At a glance

  • PHV drivers only (we don’t rent to non-licensed drivers).
  • Accepted badge councils: Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester.
  • You must live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford.
  • Cars are suitable for Uber and Bolt (depending on your own platform requirements).
  • To check eligibility, we’ll ask for: your badge council + your home postcode.

What we do (and who it suits)

We rent PHV-ready saloons to licensed private hire drivers who want a straightforward rental option for day-to-day work around Greater Manchester.

It tends to suit drivers who are doing regular local runs, airport work, or a mix of weekday and weekend shifts, and just need a reliable car that’s comfortable to drive for long hours.

Eligibility rules: badge + where you live

There are two checks we always do:

  • Your PHV badge council must be one we accept: Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester.
  • Your home address must be within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford.

It’s worth separating three things that often get mixed up:

  • Where you’re licensed (your badge council) — we only accept the councils listed above.
  • Where you work — you can work in Manchester even if your badge is from one of the accepted councils outside Manchester.
  • Where you live — the 50-mile rule is based on your home postcode, not your usual pickup areas.

If you live more than about 50 miles away from Manchester/Salford, we won’t be able to offer a rental.

How to check the 50-mile rule by postcode

The quickest way is to send us your home postcode (the one on your driving licence / documents) and your badge council. We’ll sanity-check the distance from Manchester/Salford and confirm if you’re in-range.

If you want to sense-check it yourself first, pop your postcode into any map app and check the driving distance to Salford or central Manchester. If it’s roughly within 50 miles, you’re likely in the right area — but we’ll always confirm properly from the details you provide.

Vehicles you can expect (examples)

We typically have practical PHV saloons that are popular with private hire drivers. Examples include:

  • Toyota Prius
  • Skoda Octavia
  • Kia Ceed
  • Similar PHV-friendly saloons

Vehicle availability changes, so treat these as examples rather than promises of a specific make/model.

What to have ready (so we can say yes/no quickly)

  • Your badge council (Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester)
  • Your home postcode (for the 50-mile check)
  • Your PHV badge details (a clear photo is usually easiest)
  • Your driving licence
  • A quick note of how you plan to work (Uber/Bolt, days/nights, airport, etc.)

Next steps

Message us with your badge council and home postcode and we’ll tell you if you meet the basic eligibility rules before going any further.

If you’re eligible, we’ll then talk through what’s available and what you’ll need to bring, so you’re not making unnecessary trips.
