Checking the 50-mile rule is simple: it’s based on where you live (your home postcode), and you’ll also need an accepted PHV badge. #PHV #Manchester #TaxiDriver
If you’re a working private hire driver, you don’t want to waste time calling around only to find you’re out of area. This guide shows you a quick way to check if you’re eligible with your postcode and badge council.
At a glance
- We only rent vehicles to licensed private hire (PHV) taxi drivers.
- Accepted badge councils: Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester.
- You must live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford (checked using your home postcode).
- Our cars are suitable for Uber and Bolt.
- To check eligibility, we’ll ask for your badge council and your home postcode.
What we do (and who it’s for)
Join Veritas Hire rents PHV cars to drivers who are already licensed and working (or ready to work). Most drivers coming to us want a straightforward rental for city work around Manchester/Salford, with a car that fits typical private hire platform requirements.
If you’re a licensed driver and you’re based locally, we can usually tell you quickly if you’re in area and eligible to rent.
Eligibility rules: badge + local living area
There are two checks:
- Your badge council must be one we accept: Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester.
- You must live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford: this is based on your home postcode, not where you plan to pick up passengers.
Drivers often work in Manchester even if their badge is from one of the other accepted councils. That’s fine — the key is the badge council is on the accepted list, and you live locally.
If you live more than about 50 miles away from Manchester/Salford, we won’t be able to offer a rental.
How to check quickly (postcode + badge council)
The fastest way is to send us two bits of info:
- Your home postcode (where you’re registered/living day to day).
- Your badge council (Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester).
If you want to sanity-check before you message us, do a quick map check from your postcode to “Salford” or “Manchester city centre” and see if it’s roughly within 50 miles. We’ll confirm properly when you get in touch.
Vehicles you might be offered (examples)
We run practical PHV saloons suitable for private hire platform work. Examples of vehicles we may provide include:
- Toyota Prius
- Skoda Octavia
- Kia Ceed
- Similar PHV-ready saloons
Availability can change, so treat these as typical examples rather than a promise of a specific model.
What to have ready before you contact us
- Your badge council (accepted list above)
- Your home postcode (for the 50-mile check)
- Your driver badge details (so we can confirm you’re licensed)
- A quick note on what you need day to day (auto preference, boot space, typical hours)
Next steps
Send us your home postcode and badge council and we’ll tell you if you’re eligible to rent with us. If you’re eligible, we’ll then guide you on what we need next and what’s currently available.
FAQs
Can I work Manchester with a Trafford/Sefton/Knowsley/Wolverhampton badge?
Yes, as long as your badge council is one of the accepted councils. Many drivers work Manchester while licensed elsewhere.
What if I live more than 50 miles away?
We can’t offer rentals if you live more than about 50 miles from Manchester/Salford.
Do you provide Uber/Bolt accounts or driving work?
No — we provide the rental vehicle. You’ll need your own accounts and your own work.
What do you need from me to check eligibility?
Your badge council and your home postcode. That’s enough to do the basic checks quickly.
What cars do you usually have?
Common examples are Toyota Prius, Skoda Octavia, and Kia Ceed (and similar PHV saloons). Exact models depend on what’s available at the time.
