Manchester PHV car rental: checks we do before handover

Before we hand you the keys, we do a few simple checks so you don’t waste a trip. #PHV #Manchester #TaxiDriver

If you’re a working private hire driver, you’ll know paperwork can slow everything down. This guide explains what we check before handover, what we’ll ask you for, and how to get ready.

It’s aimed at drivers hiring in Manchester/Salford who want a straightforward process.

At a glance

  • PHV drivers only (we don’t rent to the general public).
  • Badge councils we accept: Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester.
  • You must live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford (we’ll check your home postcode).
  • Cars are suitable for Uber and Bolt (vehicle type and paperwork need to match what the apps ask for).
  • What we’ll ask for up front: your badge council + your home postcode.
  • What we’ll check at handover: your driver ID/badge details and that your documents match you.

What we do (and who it suits)

We rent PHV cars to licensed private hire taxi drivers who need a reliable saloon for day-to-day work around Greater Manchester.

Most drivers who come to us are doing regular app work, mixes of day shifts and nights, or airport runs, and want a car that’s comfortable, easy on fuel, and simple to live with week to week.

Eligibility checks we do before handover

We keep this practical. Before we agree a handover, we check you meet two core rules:

  • Badge council: your private hire driver badge must be from Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester.
  • Where you live: you need to live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford. If you’re outside that distance, we won’t be able to offer a rental.

Common badge confusion (badge vs where you work vs where you live):

  • Your badge council is who you’re licensed by (the council that issued your driver licence/badge).
  • Where you work can be Manchester even if your badge is from one of the accepted councils listed above.
  • Where you live is separate again — we use your home postcode to make sure you’re within our local rental area.

Vehicles you can expect (examples)

We provide PHV-suitable saloons commonly used for private hire work. Examples include:

  • Toyota Prius
  • Skoda Octavia
  • Kia Ceed
  • Similar PHV saloons

What matters for handover is that the vehicle is appropriate for the kind of work you do (and the platform requirements if you’re using Uber or Bolt).

What to have ready (so you don’t get turned away)

  • Your PHV driver badge/licence (from one of the accepted councils).
  • Your home postcode (we’ll use this to confirm you’re within about 50 miles).
  • A valid driving licence and any ID we ask for so we can match details correctly.
  • Your contact number and preferred working area (helps us point you to a suitable car type).
  • If you’re planning to work Uber/Bolt, be ready to confirm you understand you’ll be using your own accounts.

Next steps

The quickest way to avoid back-and-forth is to message us with:

  • Your badge council
  • Your home postcode
  • Whether you’re mainly doing days, nights, or airport runs (so we can suggest a sensible vehicle type)

Once we’ve confirmed you fit the eligibility rules, we’ll talk you through what to bring and what we’ll check on the day of handover.

FAQs

Can I work Manchester with a Trafford, Sefton, Knowsley, Wolverhampton or Manchester badge?
Yes — you can work in Manchester as long as your badge is from one of those accepted councils and you meet the local living requirement.

What if I live more than 50 miles away?
We only rent to drivers who live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford, so we wouldn’t be able to set up a rental.

Do you provide Uber/Bolt accounts or driving work?
No. We supply the vehicle. You’ll need your own Uber/Bolt accounts and your own work.

What do you need from me to check eligibility?
Your badge council and your home postcode. We’ll confirm the badge is one we accept and that you’re within our local area.

What cars do you usually have?
Common options include Toyota Prius, Skoda Octavia, Kia Ceed and similar PHV saloons. Availability varies, so we’ll confirm what’s on hand when you contact us.
