Comparing PHV car rental around Manchester? Focus on the checks that stop wasted time later: badge council, where you live, and whether the car suits Uber/Bolt. #PHV #Manchester #TaxiDriver
If you’re looking for “cheap” PHV car hire, it’s easy to get pulled in by a headline figure and miss the important bits. We’re Join Veritas Hire, based around Manchester/Salford, and we rent cars to licensed private hire drivers who live locally.
This page is here to help you compare options safely, without the sales talk.
Quick answer (at a glance)
- We rent to licensed PHV/private hire taxi drivers only (not private drivers).
- Accepted badge councils: Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester.
- You must live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford (we’ll check by postcode).
- Our cars are suitable for Uber and Bolt work.
- To check eligibility, we’ll ask your badge council and your home postcode.
What we do (and who it’s for)
We provide PHV saloons for working drivers doing regular trips in and around Greater Manchester — including city work, airport runs, and longer distance jobs. If you’re already licensed and you just need a reliable car that fits typical app work, that’s where we help.
We’re not trying to be a national chain with depots everywhere. We keep it focused on local drivers we can actually support properly.
Eligibility rules: badge + where you live
This is where a lot of drivers get caught out when comparing rentals, so it’s worth being clear:
- Badge council: We only accept Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester council badges.
- Where you work: You can work in Manchester even if your badge is from one of the accepted councils above.
- Where you live: We only rent to drivers who live within around 50 miles of Manchester/Salford. If you live further than that, we won’t be able to offer a rental.
Vehicles you’ll typically see (examples, not a promise)
When you’re comparing “cheap” options, check the actual car class you’re being offered — it makes a big difference to comfort and running costs over a long week.
Examples of vehicles we may provide include:
- Toyota Prius
- Skoda Octavia
- Kia Ceed
- Similar PHV-friendly saloons
If you’re choosing between companies, ask what you’ll be driving in practice (not just “a car will be allocated”), and whether it’s suitable for Uber/Bolt use.
Getting ready checklist (to avoid wasted time)
Before you ring round five places, have these ready — it speeds everything up and stops you getting halfway through a chat only to find you’re not eligible:
- Your badge council (Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester)
- Your home postcode (for the 50-mile check)
- Your licence/badge details to hand (so there’s no back-and-forth)
- A quick note of what work you do most (city, airport, nights) so we can sanity-check vehicle suitability

FAQs
Can I work in Manchester with a Trafford/Sefton/Knowsley/Wolverhampton badge?
Yes — as long as your badge is from one of the accepted councils, you can work in Manchester. The key checks for us are your badge council and that you live within around 50 miles of Manchester/Salford.
What if I live more than 50 miles away?
We don’t offer rentals outside our local radius. If you’re further than about 50 miles from Manchester/Salford, we won’t be able to set you up.
Do you provide Uber/Bolt accounts or driving work?
No — we only provide the vehicle for licensed PHV drivers. You’ll need your own app accounts and work.
What do you need from me to check eligibility?
Your badge council and your home postcode. That lets us confirm you’re on our accepted list and within the local radius.
What cars do you usually have?
It varies, but examples include Toyota Prius, Skoda Octavia, Kia Ceed and similar PHV saloons. We’ll confirm what’s available when you contact us.
