Got questions about insurance on a PHV rental? We can talk you through what’s included and what isn’t once we’ve checked your badge council and home postcode. #PHV #Manchester #TaxiDriver
Most drivers ring us with the same set of worries: “Am I covered to work Uber/Bolt?”, “Can I use the car for airport runs?”, and “What do you need from me to confirm it?” This guide explains what we can genuinely help with on enquiry (without throwing made-up coverage figures around).
At a glance
- PHV drivers only: we only rent to licensed private hire drivers (no personal hires).
- Accepted badge councils: Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester.
- Where you live matters: you must live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford.
- Work apps: our cars are suitable for Uber and Bolt.
- What we’ll ask for: your badge council and your home postcode (so we can check eligibility quickly).
What we do (and who this is for)
We rent PHV-ready cars to working private hire drivers around Manchester/Salford. If you’re keeping your own car off the road, switching to a cleaner car, or you just want a straightforward rental you can put to work, that’s the sort of driver we speak to every day.
If you’re doing regular city work, late shifts, or airport runs, it’s normal to want something easy to drive and cheap to run. We’ll explain what paperwork and checks are needed for the rental side, and what we can confirm about the insurance side once we’ve got your details.
Eligibility rules we can confirm up front
We only rent to drivers with a current PHV badge from Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester.
Badge vs where you work vs where you live: these get mixed up all the time. Your badge council is the council that issued your PHV licence. You can still work in Manchester with one of the accepted badges, as long as you meet our rental requirements. The other key point is where you live: we rent to drivers who live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford. If you live further than that, we won’t be able to offer a rental.
Insurance questions: what we can (and can’t) say on enquiry
Because insurance can vary depending on the driver and the vehicle, we keep it straight: we’ll answer your questions clearly, but we won’t guess or quote coverage levels before we’ve checked what applies to you.
On enquiry, we can usually explain:
- How the rental insurance is arranged for a PHV rental and what documents we need to confirm it.
- Whether the vehicle is intended for private hire use (not personal-only use).
- Whether the car is suitable for Uber/Bolt work and what you may need to show the platform (platform requirements are separate from the rental).
- What driver details matter (for example: badge council, address/postcode, and basic driver info) so we can confirm what’s possible.
- Any limits on use we apply (for example: using the vehicle for PHV work rather than non-work purposes).
What we won’t do is make promises on the phone about exact cover levels, excess amounts, or anything that depends on checks. If you tell us your badge council and your home postcode, we can keep the conversation practical and accurate.
Vehicles you can expect (examples, not a promise)
Most drivers want a sensible PHV saloon that’s comfortable, easy on fuel, and straightforward for city driving. Examples of vehicles we may provide include:
- Toyota Prius
- Skoda Octavia
- Kia Ceed
- Similar PHV-ready saloons
If you’ve got a preference (hybrid/automatic, boot space, comfort for longer shifts), tell us when you enquire and we’ll let you know what’s realistic.
What to have ready before you call
To avoid back-and-forth, have these bits to hand:
- Your badge council (Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester)
- Your home postcode (to confirm you’re within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford)
- A quick note of the work you plan to do (Uber/Bolt, airport runs, mostly nights/days)
- Any vehicle preference (hybrid/automatic, larger boot, etc.)
Next steps
Send us your badge council and home postcode first. Once we’ve confirmed you’re eligible, we’ll talk through the rental basics and answer your insurance questions properly (without guessing).
FAQs
Can I work Manchester with a Trafford, Sefton, Knowsley, Wolverhampton or Manchester badge?
Yes — you can work in Manchester as long as your badge is from one of the accepted councils and you meet our rental rules.
What if I live more than 50 miles away?
We only rent to drivers who live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford, so we wouldn’t be able to offer a rental.
Do you provide Uber/Bolt accounts or driving work?
No. We provide the rental vehicle. Your app account and your work are your own arrangement.
What do you need from me to check eligibility?
Your badge council and your home postcode. That lets us confirm the key requirements quickly.
What cars do you usually have?
Common examples include Toyota Prius, Skoda Octavia, and Kia Ceed (and similar PHV saloons). It depends on availability at the time.
Can you tell me exact insurance cover or excess figures before I book?
We can explain the setup and what’s required, but we won’t quote exact coverage levels before checking your details and the specific vehicle.
