Wolverhampton badge vs Manchester badge: can you work Greater Manchester?

Got a Wolverhampton PHV badge and want to work around Greater Manchester? It can be fine — what matters is your badge council, where you live, and what platform you’re working on. #PHV #Manchester #Wolverhampton

A lot of drivers mix up the badge area with the area they work in. This guide explains the difference in plain English, and what we’ll need to check if we can rent you a car.

At a glance

  • We rent cars to licensed private hire (PHV) taxi drivers only (no personal rentals).
  • Accepted badge councils: Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester.
  • You must live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford.
  • Our cars are suitable for Uber and Bolt.
  • To check eligibility we’ll ask for your badge council and your home postcode.

What we do (and who it’s for)

Join Veritas Hire provides rental cars for working PHV drivers who need a straightforward, road-ready saloon for app work and private jobs.

Most drivers who come to us are doing regular Uber/Bolt shifts, mixing city trips with longer runs (including airport runs), and want a practical car that’s comfortable to sit in for long hours.

Badge vs where you work vs where you live (the bit that confuses people)

Here’s the simple way to look at it:

  • Your badge council is who you’re licensed with (for example, Wolverhampton or Manchester).
  • Where you work can be different — plenty of drivers do most of their driving in Greater Manchester while holding a badge from another council.
  • Where you live matters for our rentals: we only rent to drivers who live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford.

If your badge is from Wolverhampton (or one of the other accepted councils) and you live within that 50-mile area, you can still be eligible to rent and work Greater Manchester — subject to the platforms’ requirements and your own licensing conditions.

If you live more than 50 miles away, we won’t be able to offer a rental.

Eligibility rules for our rentals

We keep this simple:

  • You must be a licensed PHV taxi driver.
  • Your badge must be issued by Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester.
  • You must live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford.

Drivers often ask whether they need a “Manchester badge” to work Manchester. For renting from us, the key is that your badge council is one of the accepted ones and your home address is local enough. For work access on Uber/Bolt, always check in your driver app or with the platform directly.

Vehicles you can expect (examples)

We supply practical PHV saloons that suit city and motorway driving. Examples of vehicles we may provide include:

  • Toyota Prius
  • Skoda Octavia
  • Kia Ceed
  • Similar PHV-friendly saloons

Exact models and specs can vary, so it’s best to ask what’s available when you contact us.

What to have ready before you get in touch

A quick checklist to avoid back-and-forth:

  • Your badge council (e.g., Wolverhampton) and licence/badge details
  • Your home postcode (for the 50-mile check)
  • The platform(s) you plan to use: Uber, Bolt, or both
  • Your preferred car type (e.g., hybrid saloon, estate if you need boot space)

Next steps

Send us your badge council and home postcode, and tell us whether you’re looking to work mainly around Manchester, Salford, or wider Greater Manchester. We’ll confirm if you’re eligible and talk you through what to do next.

FAQs

Can I work Manchester with a Wolverhampton/Trafford/Sefton/Knowsley badge?
Often, yes. Drivers can work in Manchester while licensed by another council, as long as you meet your licensing conditions and the app’s requirements. For our rentals, we accept badges from Wolverhampton, Trafford, Sefton, Knowsley, or Manchester.

What if I live more than 50 miles away?
We only rent to drivers living within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford, so we wouldn’t be able to offer a rental.

Do you provide Uber/Bolt accounts or guarantee work?
No — we rent vehicles to licensed PHV drivers. Your app accounts and driving work are separate.

What do you need from me to check eligibility?
Your badge council and your home postcode are the main two. It also helps if you tell us which platform you’ll be using (Uber/Bolt).

What cars do you usually have?
Common examples include a Toyota Prius, Skoda Octavia, or Kia Ceed (and similar PHV saloons). Availability can vary.
