Renting a Wolverhampton plated PHV car near Manchester? Here’s what to ask about insurance before you commit. #PHV #Wolverhampton #Manchester
If you’re hiring a PHV vehicle, insurance is the bit that can catch drivers out if you don’t ask the right questions early. This guide is a straight-talking list of what to check when you’re looking at Wolverhampton plated cars for private hire work around Manchester.
We’re Join Veritas Hire in Manchester/Salford. We only rent to licensed PHV taxi drivers and we’ll always ask a couple of basics first so nobody wastes time.
At a glance
- PHV drivers only (licensed private hire taxi drivers).
- Badges we accept: Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester councils.
- You must live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford (home address matters for eligibility).
- Cars suitable for Uber and Bolt (you use your own accounts).
- To check eligibility we’ll ask which council your badge is with and your home postcode.
What we do (and who it’s for)
We rent PHV cars to working drivers who need a reliable, compliant vehicle for private hire work. A lot of our drivers are doing regular city jobs, early starts, late finishes, or a mix of both — and want something straightforward to run.
Our rentals are aimed at drivers who are already licensed and ready to work, including drivers who are Wolverhampton badged but working across Greater Manchester.
Eligibility rules we stick to (badge + where you live)
Badge council: We accept licences/badges issued by Wolverhampton, Sefton, Trafford, Knowsley, or Manchester councils.
Where you work: You can work in Manchester even if your badge is from one of the accepted councils outside Manchester.
Where you live: We only rent to drivers who live within about 50 miles of Manchester/Salford. If you live further away than that, we won’t be able to offer a rental.
What to ask about insurance (no waffle, just the key questions)
Before you sign anything, ask these questions and get the answers confirmed in writing (even if it’s just an email or message). It avoids surprises later.
- Is the cover specifically for private hire & reward? Don’t assume “business use” covers PHV work.
- Who is the policyholder and who is the insured driver? Clarify whether it’s fleet insurance, a company policy with you named, or another setup.
- Am I named on the policy from day one? If you’re not named, ask what you can and can’t do until you are.
- What exactly am I covered for while working? For example: carrying passengers, waiting between jobs, driving to a pickup, and driving home.
- Any restrictions on apps or types of work? Ask if Uber/Bolt use is fine and whether airport runs, late-night driving, or long-distance work affects anything.
- Excess and claims process: What’s the excess, who pays it, and what happens after an incident (replacement car process, reporting times, etc.).
- Windscreen/tyres and minor damage: What’s treated as wear and tear vs chargeable damage, and how it’s handled.
- Personal use: Are you covered for normal personal driving outside shifts (and are there any limits)?
- Breakdown vs insurance: Separate the two. Ask what’s included for breakdown recovery and what’s an insurance matter.
- Documents you can see: Ask what proof you’ll be given (certificate, schedule, or confirmation of cover) and what details it will show.
If anything is vague, keep asking until it’s clear. With PHV work, “I think so” isn’t enough.
Vehicles you’ll usually see (examples, not a promise)
We typically run practical PHV saloons that suit city and motorway work. Examples include:
- Toyota Prius
- Skoda Octavia
- Kia Ceed
- Similar PHV-friendly saloons
What to have ready (quick checklist)
- Your badge council (Wolverhampton/Sefton/Trafford/Knowsley/Manchester).
- Your home postcode (for the 50-mile check).
- Your PHV licence/badge details (so we can confirm you’re licensed).
- A couple of lines on how you work (full-time/part-time, typical hours) to help match a suitable car.
Next steps
If you want to check you’re eligible, send us two things: your badge council and your home postcode. We’ll confirm whether we can rent to you and talk through what you need to see regarding the vehicle and insurance before you go any further.
